See You on the Other Side

Put on Kristen Hersh’s Hips and Makers to lift my spirits and caught a line that had never resonated before. I’ve been listening to this album since its release in the mid 90’s, but only now that we have left the Boston area (not so far from where she was living and playing back then) and moved to these mountains did the lyric about the Blue Ridge stand out. I immediately pulled up the entire song and found, as always with her music, that a million stories could be pulled from each and every verse she wrote. It meant a lot, though different things to me then and means ever more, right now. What is it about the songs and music that stay with us, that we never tire of and improve immeasurably with age?
